Restore Kuwohi

The Tribal Council of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians has unanimously supported a resolution to restore the name Kuwohi to the mountain presently known as Clingman’s Dome. This mountain is a place of deep historical significance to the Cherokee. In order to return the name back to the original Kuwohi, the U.S. Board of Geographic Names takes many things into consideration such as historical significance, local jurisdiction support, and public support.
